The Nigerian Senate has declared its support for President Muhammadu Buhari, whose hammer fell on Babachir Lawal, the hitherto suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)
The senators were happy that the president acted on their indictment of Lawal following a probe of the alleged mismanagement of funds in the Presidential Initiative on the North East.
A point of order concerning the issue was raised by the deputy majority leader of the Senate, Bala Ibn Na’Allah, following which Bukola Saraki, the president of the upper legislative chamber, praised Buhari for taking the action.
Senator Na’Allah cited order 43 and stated how extremely proud he was of the Senate and its integrity.
He went further to say that a new SGF had been appointed and that the issue surrounding the sack of the SGF emanated from the Senate and shows the legislators' support in the fight against corruption.
