- Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central), has called for a Presidential Committee to be set up by President Muhammadu Buhari, to investigate the ongoing stand-off between Ibe Kachikwu and Maikanti Baru

- Sani urged Buhari to appoint either Professor Tam David West or Professor Jubril Aminu to lead the committee; and to temporarily suspend Baru and Kachikwu while the committee carries out its investigations

- The senator cautioned that failure could do so would cast a dark shadow on the legacy of the Buhari administration

Following the face-off between the minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu; and the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central), has called for a Presidential Committee to be set up to investigate the matter.

In a post on his Facebook page, the senator urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint either Professor Tam David West or Professor Jubril Aminu to lead the committee in its investigations into the allegations leveled against Baru, by Kachikwu.

NAIJ.com notes that Shehu advised the president that failure to take such action would cast doubts over his administration.

He stated: “PMB should set up a Presidential Commitee led by Professor Tam David West or Professor Jubril Aminu to investigate the issues in the NNPC.

“Also, the GMD and Minister of state should temporarily step aside.

“PMB must take this issue seriously because the figure of '$25billion' whether true or false or exaggerated can stick in the memory of Nigerians for a long time and will cast a dark shadow on the legacy of the administration.”

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that the group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, gave reasons why he did not seek the permission of the minister of state for petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu or the NNPC board before approving some contracts at the corporation.

Baru has been in the spotlight since Kachikwu in a memo to Buhari detailed several alleged misdeeds against the NNPC GMD, including the unilateral award of hefty oil and gas contracts totaling about N9 trillion.
