- 242 stranded migrants have returned Nigeria from Libya

- Foreign affairs ministry has been visiting Libyan camps to identify Nigerians and repatriate them

- Cases of kidnapping of Nigerians by foreigners had also been addressed

The federal government repatriated 242 Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya on Tuesday, 28, following series of messages of their predicament circulated.

Punch reports that the migrants returned to Nigeria on Tuesday evening.

NAIJ.com gathered that the foreign affairs ministry’s spokesman, Tiwatope Elias-Fatile, said the mission has been visiting detention camps to identify Nigerians for registration and to issue Emergency Travelling Certificates to them.

He said: “It is apt to add that our mission in Tripoli has been addressing the problems associated with Nigerian migrants in Libya.

“There were instances when the mission received appeals for intervention from some Nigerian families whose children and relations were victims of inhumane acts in that country.

“The government is also exploring the feasibility of sending aircraft to evacuate Nigerians who are stranded in Libya.”

The ministry stated that cases involving kidnapping of Nigerians for ransom by foreigners had been addressed.

NAIJ.com had previously reported that thirty-one migrants were reported dead and 200 rescued after they were attacked by sharks after boat mishap during a crossing from Libya to Italy.
