- He states that his administration is committed to addressing the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has said hate, misrepresentation of religion and violent extremism in the country can only be rooted out with cooperation among Nigerians.

The president made the statement on Tuesday, November 28 during the launch of Nigeria’s policy framework and National Action plan for preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Nation reports.

The president said the Nigerian people must do all they can to resist the twisted ideologies of terrorists.

He stated that his administration is committed to addressing the root causes of terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria.

Buhari said the national action plan on counter terrorism was developed after wide consultations with Nigerians both in and outside government.

He advised urged states and local governments to draw up a similar plan to ensure that the message of counter-terrorism is effectively transmitted to the grassroots.

He said: “We must now while working together focus in rooting out hate, misrepresentation of religion and violence in our society.”

Meanwhile, the chief of army staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, has said the political class, intelligence community, Nigeria police and other civil authorities need to play their roles for the remaining Boko Haram insurgents to be defeated.

He said the military had played its role well and won the war by successfully degrading Boko Haram and reclaiming captured Nigerian territories. Buratai made the statement on Tuesday, November, 28, during the decoration of newly promoted 45 Major Generals.

The army chief stated that issues of indoctrination and propaganda by the terrorists must be stopped, adding that the above suggestions were the surest way to finally defeat the insurgents.
