- Zimbabwean cabinet ministers have shunned a meeting called by President Robert Mugabe

- Mugabe called for the meeting on the same day impeachment proceedings against him were scheduled to begin

- This is the first meeting the embattled and increasingly isolated president is calling since the Army intervention in his country

Embattled Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, has suffered a major setback, as ministers shunned a cabinet meeting which he called for, Zambian Observer reports.

The president had called for the meeting on Tuesday morning, November 21; and the development was made public by his chief secretary.

This is the first meeting Mugabe would be calling for, since the Army takeover.

NAIJ.com notes that the development comes on the same day members of his Zanu PF party had planned to start impeachment proceedings against him.

The leader of the War Veterans Association, Chris Mutsvangwa, disclosed that all the cabinet ministers refused to honour Mugabe’s invitations.

At a press conference in Harare, the country’s capital, Mutsvangwa renewed calls for the president to step aside.

Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously reported that amidst the military intervention in Zimbabwe, Chatunga Bellamine Mugabe, the son of the embattled president, Robert Mugabe, posted a defiant message on Facebook.

In the post which was put up on Sunday, November 19, Chatunga stated that his father was a revolutionary leader and could not be fired.

The president’s son addressed his father by his clan name, Gushungo, and referred to him as the ‘champion of champions’.
