The National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom has conducted a three day training for operatives of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

The training which is being conducted by David Alexander, head of Digital Forensics, National Crime Agency, is meant to enhance and develop officers of the EFCC on the use of NIUX software which was donated to the commission in August, 2017 by the UK government.

The acting chairman of the anti-graft agency, Ibrahim Magu, on Monday, November 20, expressed his gratitude to the government of the United Kingdom for supporting Nigeria’s efforts in battling corruption.

Magu who was represented by the head of digital forensic unit of EFCC, Nuhu Buhari, explained that the Niux software, server and its workstation is an advanced technology designed for use in processing of suspects computers and mobile phones during investigation.

He said it will enhance the capacity of investigation procedure by reducing the turn-around time spent on processing computers and mobile equipments from two months to two weeks

Meanwhile, an attempt by the EFCC to arrest the heads of the State Security Service (SSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has reportedly caused tension in Abuja.

Premium Times reports that a combined team from the EFCC and Nigeria Police Force (NPF) attempted to arrest the former head of the NIA, Ayo Oke, as well as that of the SSS, Ita Ekpeyong, in their homes located at Mamman Nasir Street in the Asokoro district of Abuja.

They were however resisted by armed security agents of the two agencies on guard.

It was learnt that the tension that occurred thereafter caused serious traffic situation in the area. At the time of this report, none of the agencies had issued a formal explanation or given details concerning the incident.
